Maria Carla Sciacca
The Eurostars Roma Congress presents Maria Carla Sciacca’s personal vision of cubism.

11/01/08 The Eurostars Roma Congress**** presents, from 11 January to 21 February, an exhibition displaying canvases by Maria Carla Sciacca. Under the title ‘Colori e Suoni’ (Colours and Sounds), the Neapolitan artist presents an original reinterpretation of cubism, one of the artistic movements enjoying greatest historical recognition. The opening ceremony of this exhibition is to take place on 11 January, at 8 p.m. , on the premises of this Roman hotel.

Sciacca defines her work as the result of portraying “landscapes with a marked character, but only just recognizable through the forms of the neo-cubist style”, employed by the artist. Views of the SorrentoCoast, of the French Riviera or Montecarlo are used by Sciacca as a basis for her paintings. But, more than the landscapes it is the people in these places who kindle the devising of her pictures. “The feelings, colours and sounds of everyday life are my inspiration; a square, a marketplace, the sound of a violin from the inside of a palace or a piano concerto”, the artist explains.

Influenced by the Bohemian atmosphere of Rome’s Via dei Coronari, Maria Carla Sciacca commenced a successful career at the turn of this century in the course of which she has received various distinctions and awards. Amongst others, the Rotary Prize in 2005 and the Ercolano Prize in 2007, in addition to recognition by both the general public and art critics alike.
