27/07/07 The Eurostars Gaudi Hotel**** (Barcelona) is to hold, from 27 July to 15 September, an exhibition by Luciana Mariani (Buenos Aires, 1976). In these paintings by this multi-facetted artist, lines run through the images, planes violently attack organic forms and red is the predominant colour. The opening of this exhibition will take place on Tuesday, 31 July at 8 p.m.

From a very early age, Luciana Mariani demonstrated her abilities and inclination towards painting and drawing. In 1999 she obtained the title of Fine Arts teacher and this was when she began to exhibit her work in various bars in her home city of Buenos Aires. After travelling to Australia, where she presented her work at an exhibition in Sydney, she arrived in Barcelona in 2003, the city where she currently resides and works. During some of the stages of her career, Mariani felt the urge to experiment with different sculpting materials like wood, stone and cement, although she assures that, for many years now, painting is her only “language”.   

The Argentinean painter defines her work as “an attempt to make viewers rediscover their organic side and be conscious of it”. She adds that it is a matter of “searching within oneself, of connecting with one’s organic being, smashing ourselves against the human being, looking inwards and identifying ourselves”. Through her work, Mariani “seeks equality, using common elements typical of each one of us”. By this means, she tries to diminish “the differences”. Reality and observation of the human being are her main sources of inspiration.
