David Arzeno
The Eurostars Cristal Palace**** presents colourist creations by David Arzeno, ‘Gavingo’.

15/12/07 The hotel Eurostars Cristal Palace**** (Barcelona) presents, from 15 December to 30 January, an exhibition in which the limelight is taken by paintings by David Arzeno, ‘Gavingo’. This Dominican artist displays at the Barcelona establishment a series of canvases in which colour plays a fundamental role. Their creator assures that, beyond its decorative quality, colour is “a builder of the image from a figurative viewpoint”. The exhibition will be officially opened this forthcoming 19 December, at 7.30 p.m., at the Eurostars Cristal Palace****.

To achieve his objective, ‘Gavingo’ creates, “from placing dots of different colours spread over a neutral plane”, by means of which one can perceive the image, if one can stop looking at the dots, either by viewing it from a distance or by viewing with one’s eyes out of focus. The artist concludes that this form of creation is included “in a phase in which I try to establish a relationship between the figurative and the abstract”; and by using the acrylic technique “as it allows me to experiment abundantly”. Gavingo creates a real universe in which he, nevertheless, uses paint sparingly, because the prime focus is on “the visual and perceptive aspect of colour”.

Trained in the figurative technique, the artist asserts that he is currently much influenced by the abstract. “What I like most about painting is the sensitive vibration of forms and colours”, adds Gavingo.  In this context, the works exhibited at the Eurostars Cristal Palace**** are characteristic, because, according to the artist “I feel painting in a musical sense”. And, as a model to be followed, Gavingo cites Kandinsky, - “one of my first impulses to follow this experience of chromatic chords” – Cézanne, Van Gogh, Matisse, Klee, Pollock, Rothko and Cy Twombly.

Trained in studios dedicated to Graphic Design and Advertising and in Fine Arts, work by Gavingo has been displayed in various collective exhibitions, such as the FNAC gallery, in which he participated in the show, “Friends of the Rambla (Barcelona, 2003) or in the BarcelonaDiocesanMuseum in 2004.
