The Eurostars BCN Design, the seventh establishment belonging to the chain in Barcelona, opens its doors to the public
29/05/2008
Eurostars Hotels has opened the Eurostars BCN Design 5*, a boutique hotel with 70 guestrooms designed by Xavier Claramunt, set in a hundred-year old building located right on the Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona. This new hotel joins and complements the nine establishments which form part of the hotel division of the Hotusa group in the city of Barcelona, six of which belong to the Eurostars Hotels portfolio. Amongst the latter are the stunning Eurostars Grand Marina Hotel*****GL, a luxury establishment located in the WorldTradeCenter area and the Eurostars Anglí****, a design hotel in the peaceful Bonanova area.
The Hotusa Group chairman, Amancio López Seijas, maintains that the “Eurostars BCN Design 5* marks the line of growth that we foresee for the future in the city of Barcelona, as well as in other major European cities, based on small, exclusive design establishments, providing value added elements for our clients”. In this context, the company plans on opening a second establishment at the end of this year, similar in style but with only 30 guestrooms, in the Ramblas area, opposite the Boquería.
Eurostars BCN Design 5*: Signature interior design
Inside the Eurostars BCN Design 5*, guests will find an atmosphere of modern comfort and a series of details and amenities that invite one to enjoy one’s stay to the full. López Seijas assures that the Eurostars BCN Design 5* “represents a real tribute to the essence of Barcelona and includes references to Modernism, which are plentiful throughout the Eixample district, with a nod to the refreshing city of design which Barcelona has become”.
The prestigious design studio, EQUIPXavier Claramunt, in conjunction with the Hotusa Group’s interior decoration department has been responsible for the design work. Claramunt himself explains that for the foyer, “a very theatrical stage setting has been conceived by means of the play of lights and colours, with reds and blacks predominating”. Moreover, the original flooring was kept, which used the same popular, Paseo de Gracia hexagonal tiles designed by Gaudi in 1904 and which have become a veritable symbol of the city.
The first floor houses the hotel’s reception area and some spaces for common usage, such as the bar and the restaurant. Here, also, a stage effect through colours has been created; beneath a red ceiling and details in silver, black and white on the walls and furniture. This area is open on one side, where the bar is located, to the Paseo de Gracia while the other side, containing the dining-room, opens onto a spacious interior courtyard, typical of the Eixample district and which in turn opens out onto a teak-wood veranda.
The Eurostars BCN Design 5* provides 70 rooms, of which nine have balconies, two are suites, with one including an atrium. “The rooms are another of the differentiating elements in the hotel, inasmuch as the distribution is completely open”, explains Xavier Claramunt. Baths and sinks are integrated in the room planning, conceptually separated only by the floor pattern and walls in red and lilac mosaics. The wall at the bed-head is almost entirely covered by a reproduction of “designs in Modernist style but with a pixelled effect that gives it a contemporary air”, according to Claramunt.
