TheEurostars Cristal Palace**** (Barcelona) presents an exhibition, from 30 August to 15 de October, starring photographs by Maria Andrews.
María Andrews assures asserts that her work is the result of “a challenge to push photography outside its current limitations as a means to document and represent reality”. The artistic objective pursued by Andrews in her creations is influenced by other photographer colleagues with whom, incidentally, she studied: the Americans, Larry Sultan and Jim Goldberg. “My sources of inspiration have varied during my artistic career, although I have always had special interest in the study of work by artists who have tried to open our minds to new ideas”, the artist specifies. It is for this reason that the photographs taken by Andrews are characterized by their experimental nature, even though its leitmotif is everyday reality .
Born in Sabadell, Barcelona, María Andrews moved to San Francisco where she studied Fine Arts. This U.S. city has shown a large number of exhibitions by this artist, such as those held at the UC Berkeley Extension (1977), The Mission Cultural Center (1998), or the MoMA which permanently has on display some of her works. In addition, Andrew’s photographs have been on show in Princetown (2001). With regard to Catalonia, this Barcelona-born artist has held exhibitions at the Escola d’Art in Terrasa (2003) , the Camera Club of Sabadell (2004) or the Trebol BCN Art Gallery, where her work is continually on display.
