Eurostars Germany Project
Hotusa Group will invest 125 million euros in three new hotel projects in Germany

20/05/2008 The Hotusa Group  is to invest 125 million euros in three new five-star hotels in Germany. In order to implement this operation, the company chaired by Amancio López Seijas, has signed a loan facility agreement with twelve financial entities under the leadership of Banco Español Popular and which also includes banks La Caixa, Caixa Catalunya, Caja Vital, Banco Pastor, Caixa Tarragona, Caja Extremadura, Caja Segovia, Caixanova, Caixa Geral, l’Institut Català de Finances and the Portuguese Banco Espirito Santo.

This investment will be dedicated entirely to the building of two hotels in Munich (Arnulfspark and Schwanthalerstrasse) and one in Berlin, located on the popular Friedrichstrasse, close to the railway station bearing the same name and the Admiralpalast Theatre. All three establishments, which will become part of the Eurostars Hotels chain, will be outstanding buildings for their architecture as well as their signature décor. Opening is planned for 2009 (Arnulfspark) and 2010.

The Hotusa Group chairman, Amancio López Seijas, asserts that “the situation experienced by Germany over the past few years has allowed us to gain access to business opportunities of considerable interest”. López Seijas also holds that: “this triple operation is proof of our utter confidence in Germany, a destination that has huge potential, particularly in the luxury tourist segment”. Indeed, these three hotels form part of the top category segment and are directed towards a client profile encompassing primarily business travellers and tourists with a high purchasing power.

These three forthcoming openings will increase the company’s presence to five establishments on German territory. The hotel division of the Group currently operates the Eurostars Park Hotel Maximilian (Regensberg) and the Regent Hotel in Munich.  The investment in Germany forms part of the expansion plans being undertaken by the Group’s hotel division, which estimates the opening of over 20 establishments over the next three years. The 2007 turnover for this business area reached 198.5 million euros, i.e. a 28% increase over the figure for the previous year.

Three hotels marked out by their design

The Friedrichstrasse hotel will provide 221 guestrooms: 11 of which will be suites; approximately 900 m2 of conference facilities, a restaurant and a spa equipped with a fitness centre, saunas and swimming pool. The design of the building is in the form of a sinuous “S” and one of its outstanding features is a striking, modern glass façade. The interior decoration has been awarded by the Hotusa Group to the GCA Arquitectes studio, under the management of Josep Juanpere, the studio which has also been responsible for the interiors in the Eurostars Grand Marina Hotel 5*GL and the Eurostars Madrid Tower 5*.

Of the two Munich hotels, the Arnulfspark will be the first to open its doors, towards mid-2009. The structure will be on a horizontal plane, only six storeys in height, with a façade that will attract enormous attention due to the impressive use of coloured glass. The hotel will be located at the most easterly point of the Bavarian capital, not far from the railway station and will have 237 guestrooms, including eight suites and ten apartments. The ground floor will house a restaurant with a seating capacity for 115 persons, a bar lounge and over 700 m2 of conference rooms. The top floor will contain the fitness area and swimming pool.

The Schwanthalerstrasse Project, currently in its final definition phase, will shine for its contemporary style and design. It will provide 205 guestrooms, a restaurant, a small spa area and 360 m2 in reception rooms.
