The Eurostars Cristal Palace**** Hotel (Barcelona) presents, from 10 November to 10 December an exhibition showing paintings by Jaime Juez Codina. The Barcelona establishment displays a dozen works characterized by their striking use of colour and expressionism. Amongst the paintings that can be viewed at the Eurostars Cristal Palace**** Hotel (Barcelona), the following titles are noteworthy: Blue Vase, Where is the spring time? Cat in blue or Paris studio.
Juez Codina shows influence from the comic in his creations, a modern art form born in the 20th century and directed, primarily, towards a youthful public. This can be explained by the fact that his creations are characterized by their fluid lines, recalling the look of a child. From this point, Juez Codina undertakes an internal and solitary search that is materialized in a figurative primitivism. The use of colour in his paintings, where the human figure and material objects come alive through the power of the colour and the serious, downright outlines, without unnecessary flourishes, is the most striking feature in the accomplishment of a very moving, expressionist and magical iconography.
Born in Barcelona in 1944, Jaime Juez Codina took interest in the art world since he was very young. The son of a well-known artist from the world of comics, Juez Codina began his career in the Barcelona Fine Arts School, from where he later moved to St. Martin’s in London. In 1971, the artist held his first travelling exhibition through various locations in Catalonia, entitled “Escampant la boira”. The exhibition was presented by the famous poet, Joan Brosa.
Works by Juez Codina have been on show in various exhibitions held in Barcelona, his home city, as well as in the rest of Spain and in foreign parts. Indeed, this artist has recently held shows in various galleries in Paris, New York and Tokyo. In this latter city, Juez Codina held a successful exhibition at the Brocken Gallery.
