Information about Seville
There’s no city in Western Europe more exotic than Seville. The elegant Andalusian capital well represents all the Spanish stereotypes: bulls, tapas, wine, happy people that loves party. There are no doubts that in Seville these things are not only inventions specially made to attract tourists, but the real soul of a city that lives in this way. It’s obvious that there are other reasons to visit the city: among narrow streets, aristocratic neighborhood and secret gardens there’s an architectural heritage of great value, with beautiful buildings, magnificent churches and Arabic palaces.
All the most important monuments in Seville are between Plaza del Triunfo and Plaza de la Virgen de los Reyes square. The Alcazar, European oldest royal palace, is the transformation of an Arabic fortress; its peculiarity is the variety in styles and decorations. The Cathedral, facing the Alcazar, was built on the site of the former mosque and is the third-largest Christian temple in the world. Of the old demolished mosque there are only few remains in the Patio de los Naranjos (orange tree court) and the impressive Giralda, it is the old mosque minaret converted in the Cathedral bell tower and this is the monument symbol of Seville.
