Information about Segovia
Segovia was compared with a vessel made of stone, because its silhouette, standing in the top of a rock and culminating with the Alcazar, is similar to the prow of a boat, instead the superb bell tower of the Cathedral seems to be the mainmast. The old town of amazing beauty and the famous roman aqueduct were declared by UNESCO World Heritage Site. Medieval walls surrounding the city, old streets full of magic, the special taste of Castilian food, architectural treasure: all that and many more make the visit to Segovia unforgettable.
At the entrance of the old town there’s the imposing roman aqueduct, it was built around the I century under the Trajan empire to carry water from the Río Frío, a river situated in the mountains, to Segovia. The aqueduct is a city symbol and one of the most incredible and best-preserved legacies of Roman civil engineering. At the opposite side of the city, standing on a rock above 80 meters of a precipice, there is the Alcazar Castle, other city symbol. In the heart of the old town the beautiful cathedral pinnacles stand out in the Plaza Mayor Square. The Church is the last gothic cathedral built in Spain and because of its elegance it is called Dama de las Catedrales (Dame of the Spanish Cathedrals)
