Information about Regensburg
There are two thousand years of history in the Regensburg’s urban landscape: architectural and artistic monuments, museums and art collections invite you to spend more time in this legendary city. At this vivacious mix of culture and art it’s to be added the authentic Bavarian hospitality. The city lies on the banks of the Danube and is the ideal starting point for river boat trips. The medieval face of Regensburg, that in the past was a free imperial city, is characterized by churches, towers and red roofs that date back to a period between XII and XIV century. Built in stone, they are symbol of the ancient wealth of the city, which was the richest one of southern Germany.
En Regensburg you can find the Steinerne Brücke Bridge that with its 330 meters is a medieval engineering masterpiece: 850 years ago was already crossed by the carts of the rich merchants of the city. It’s the oldest stone bridge in Germany and affords one of the best views of the city. Others interesting places are the St. Peter’s Cathedral, with its colorful stained glass windows, and the Porta Praetoria, that together with the Porta Nigra in Trier is considered the most important Roman monument in Germany. It was built in the year 179 a.C., during Marco Aurelio Empire.
