Information about Budapest
Budapest is known as the Paris of the east. Fascinating and monumental, it’s a capital city in the old Central-Europe style, like Vienna and Prague. It’s composed by Buda the old part, on the west bank of Danube, which with its buildings a little bit decadent preserves the charm of an ancient village. On the east bank lies pest, the new part with its elegant boulevard, luxury shops and bars. These two parts originally were two separate cities that have been united with Obuda to form the present Budapest. They are linked by eight bridges, an important architectonic attraction in a city full of charming places.
In Budapest many monuments and historical buildings are waiting to be discovered. On the top of the hill, in the old medieval city, there is the old royal castle, one of the main touristic attractions in the city, In the building you can find also three museums and the National Széchényi Library. In Buda, the old buildings witnesses of a glorious past, like Matias church, show their entire splendor. The most beautiful park in the city is in Margaret Island (Margitsziget). Surrounded by Danube’s waters, it received its current name after St. Margaret, Hungarian princess who lived in the convent of the island. Budapest offers also many thermal springs and health spas, among them the old Turkish bath, still used nowadays.
